STAFF LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT
Staff learning and development continues to be pivotal to ensuring human performance improvement throughout the organization and as such is linked to CXC’s organizational strategic priorities.
The main focus areas of learning and development initiatives at CXC focus on:

  1. Current job performance improvement – job related developmental areas as identified by the employee assessments and developmental plans.
  2. Organizational capacity – associated with the implementation of new software and our focus on continuous improvement.
  3. Professional development – to ensure that staff gain new knowledge and remain updated about developments in their areas of expertise.
  4. Educational programmes/ Personal benefits – individually initiated development goals of staff.

It must be noted that as of 30 September 2017, there were three approved from six requests for funding for employee initiated programmes. These included the following:

  • Partial funding towards a Masters Programme in Project Management;
  • Full funding for a course on Managing International Conferences; and
  • Full funding for a course on Editing.

Key activities for the year included:

  • The Association of Test Publishers (ATP) conference in Scottsdale, Arizona which was attended by Mr Rodney Payne and Mr Alton McPherson;
  • The Distinguished Leadership and Innovation Conference (DLIC) in Trinidad and Tobago which was attended by Dr Carol Granston, Mr Stephen Savoury, Mr Rodney Payne and Mr Andre Blair;
  • The Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Skills conference in Jamaica which was attended by Dr Hamilton Jemmott;
  • The Cave Hill School of Business Executive Leadership Programme 2017 in Miami which was attended by Mr Kemaul Persaud, Mrs Sharon Armstrong-Mullah and Dr Yolande Wright;
  • The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) conference in New Orleans, Louisiana which was attended by Mrs Roslyn Harewood-Blackman;
  • Several SAGE ACCPACC courses which were attended according to relevance by Finance and Office Management staff;
  • The 2017 UWI Caribbean Commercial Law Workshop in Miami, Florida which was attended by Mr Kemaul Persaud;
  • The CompTIA Cybersecurity online Course which was attended by Mr Andre Blair, Mr Keone James, Ms Sherry Brathwaite and Mr Leighton John;
  • The online Marketing Measurement and Analytics Course that was attended by Ms Andrea Austin;
  • Barbados Employers Confederation courses which were attended according to relevance by Human Resource staff;
  • The BITT seminar entitled Central Bank meets Blockchain was attended by Mr Kemaul Persaud, Mrs Sharon Armstrong-Mullah, Mr Sean Wilson and Mr Ayodele Pompey;
  • The Economist Group’s International Treasury and Cash Management course which was attended by Mr Sean Wilson;
  • The St Vincent and Grenadines Community College conference at which Mrs Brendalee Cato was a speaker; and
  • Relevant EDPD staff members have also started Animation courses which are offered by BIMAP.

In addition, Mr Ayodele Pompey attended self-study courses in Optimal Product Management and Product Marketing Management; Ms Deborah Haynes attended a course in Business Analysis Essentials; and Mr Andre Blair and Mr Keone James attended a Leadership Communication Workshop.

Congratulations to Mrs Avonda Foster who completed her BIMAP Diploma this year.

PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT
Performance Management continues to be pivotal to the learning and development programme as well as assisting the organization in reaching its goals and determination of the Employee of the Year. During this year, to assist with ensuring the robust nature of this process, educational sessions on performance management were held for staff to enhance transparency and equity in the administration of the process.
